Abstract
We evaluated the Technicon H-2TM system, a new automated blood cell analyzer that performs complete blood cell count(CBC) and a full white blood cell differential count based on light scattering and cytochemistry.
Whthin-run and between -day precison were acceptable over the entire parameters except monocyte, eosinophil, and basophil. We compared the performance in the 9 parameters of H-2 system with those of Coulter Counter Model S plus IV (CCS+IV). WBC
differential count on the H-2 system was also compared with manual method. Blood sample were obtained from 50 healthy blood donors and 84 patients. Close correlation was observed for all parameters except the mean corpuscular hemoglobin
concentration
(MCHC). Poor correlation for the MCHC reflects the novel methodology of the H-2 system for measuring RBC size and, independently, RBC hemoglobin content. In WBC differential count, the correlation was good in neutrophil, lymphocyte and
eosinophil,
but
poor in monocyte and basophil.
It is considered that the H-2 system s a suitable instrument for providing both CBC and a full WBC differential count in simultaneous manner, and it can greatly contribute to hematology laboratories with increasing workload.
